With a focusrite saffire pro, I can increase latency to 0.7 ms (48kHZ). This ardour-jack ensemble is a real-time DAW that is available on demand. The LADSPA catalog plug-ins (with or without a graphic interface) can be used, as can a few vsts. The control surface is the only area where midi is currently available (though it can be implemented for other surfaces as well).
